Mugoiri Gachiani is a Nairobi-based visual artist working with Wajukuu Arts in Mukuru. Her practice involves continuous exploration of different materials—primarily painting and collage—through which she refines her skills while drawing inspiration from mentorship and research.

Gachiani’s work is a personal reflection of life’s unfolding events, capturing both joy and turmoil. Her art often explores themes of solitude, shaped by experiences that can create a sense of emotional isolation. Through painting, she finds a sense of freedom, using color and composition to express emotions tied to her journey. Her collage work, an evolving aspect of her practice, involves layering diverse materials—symbolizing how fragmented life experiences, whether chaotic or peaceful, ultimately come together to form something meaningful and beautiful.

At the heart of her work is a search for self-identity and self-discovery. She engages with themes of introspection, emotional barriers, and the weight of past, present, and future experiences. Through her art, she navigates the complexities of human thought—where we are often bound by past experiences, lost in indecision, or consumed by the uncertainties of tomorrow.
